Description: The cinnamon tree is an evergreen native to China and Vietnam that has been cultivated in many other regions. It has shiny, leathery green leaves and small, white flowers with oval-shaped, purple flowers.

Colour: dark brown

Common uses: Is believed to have the following properties: stimulant, antiseptic, antibiotic, astringent, insecticide.

Blends well with: all oils from the citrus family, clove, lavender, rosemary, thyme.

Aromatic scent: has a warm, spicy, clove-like smell. Cinnamon bark has a more conventional cinnamon-like smell.

History: Medicinal use of cinnamon leaf was first recorded in Chinese formularies as early as 2700BC. The herb has been used as a healing aid for stomach upsets and gas, diarrhea, rheumatism, kidney ailments and abdominal pain. The Egyptians used it as a foot massage and a remedy for excessive bile. It was used as an ingredient in mulled wine, love potions and a sedative during birth.

Cautions: Is capable of causing sensitivity, especially with mucous membranes. It should be used in proper dilution and avoided during pregnancy.

Safety data: Avoid during pregnancy; skin irritant (dilute before using externally); may trigger epileptic seizures in susceptible individuals.
