Description: Manuka is one of three teatrees indigenous to Australia and New Zealand. Manuka essential oil from the East Cape of NZ has been confirmed as having the highest antimicrobial activity, evidence indicating that it is up to 20 times more potent than Australian teatree (Melaleuca alternifolia).

Colour: clear with a light yellow tone

Common uses: manuka oil has antibacterial, antifungal, anti-acne, anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, and anti-allergenic propeties. It has practical applications with chicken pox, cold sores, insect bites and warts.

Blends well with: lavandin, lavender, clary sage. Rosemary, pine, geranium, marjoram and spice oils.

Aromatic scent: woodsy, cedar-like smell that is not as sharp as teatree.

History: The manuka tree has long been valued for its healing properties by the Maori. Infusions and poultices were made from the leaves and inner bark. The seeds and sap were chewed. The manuka tree also produces a nectar that bees turn into a rich amber honey known for its curative properties.
