Rose geranium essential oil

Description: Rose geranium is a hairy perennial shrub growing up to 1m. It has pointed leaves, serrated at the edges, and pinkish-white flowers.

Colour: pale yellow green

Common uses: A very versatile oil, rose geranium can be used to help in the treatment of acne, bruises, burns, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, hemorrhoids, lice, mosquito repellent, ringworm, ulcers, poor circulation, sore throat, PMS, menopausal problems, stress, and neuralgia.

Strength of aroma: medium

Blends well with: angelica, basil, bergamot, carrot seed, cedarwood, citronella, clary sage, grapefruit, jasmine, lavender, lime, neroli, orange, rosemary.

Aromatic scent: Many of the chemical constituents are similar to that of rose essential oil. It has some of the rose floral notes in a base that is both sweet and herbaceous.

History: The plants originated in South Africa, Madagascar, Egypt and Morocco and were introduced to Italy, Spain, and France in the 17th century. In early times geraniums were planted around the house to ward off evil spirits.

Cautions: Can cause sensitivity in some since it balances the hormonal system. It should be avoided in pregnancy.
