Method:
Make a double boiler by placing a heatproof jug carefully inside a pot of simmering water.

In the double boiler gently melt the cetyl alcohol, conditioner pellets and the cocoa butter.

Once melted (but not boiling) take the jug off the heat and stir in the rest of the ingredients. Now is the time to add colour if you want to.

Pour into moulds and leave to set. Refrigerate to speed up the process. Once hard, remove from moulds.

Your conditioner bar is now ready to use!

To use, apply the bar to wet hair after shampooing and massage through. Rinse clean.

Leave the bar out to air dry, ready for its next use.

About the ingredients

We know some of these ingredients are unfamiliar so here's a quick summary of what they are and what they do.

Cetyl alcohol
Coconut derived and non toxic, cetyl alcohol is often used as an opacifier in shampoos and conditioners, as an emollient, thickening agent or emulsion stabiliser in skin creams and lotions. It is soothing for the skin and hair and gives finished products a silky feel with good spreadability. When used in shampoo and conditioner it adds to their moisturisation, enhances viscosity and adds to foam production.

Conditioner pellets - palm free
Palm oil free, vegan and cruelty free. A conditioning agent for hair and cationic emulsifier for skincare, Conditioner pellets - palm free (CPPF) are 80% pure active ingredient (Behentrimonium methosulfate aka BTMS) and 20%
Isopropyl alcohol. In hair care applications, CPPF leaves hair soft and tangle free and can also be used in skincare products. These emulsions provide a soft powdery feel on the skin and are an ideal choice for leave-in conditioners and leave-on skincare formulations.

D-Panthenol - aka Provitamin B5, is commonly used in shampoos and conditioners, is water-soluble, and is absorbed easily into the human body. It is completely safe and non-toxic. It works by attracting moisture from the air and binding it to hair follicles. When D-Panthenol is used as a moisturising agent in shampoos and conditioners, the hair feels lubricated but not greasy. It can also make hair appear more shiny.

Glycerin, certified organic - palm oil free, vegetable oil based, mainly soybean and coconut oil. Glycerin is a sugar alcohol which acts as a moisturiser (emollient) and humectant, meaning it absorbs water from the air. Most glycerins are palm-oil based, so please beware.

Geogard 221 - Ecocert approved preservative.
