Description: Clove is derived from a slender evergreen tree that grows up to 12m. At the start of the rainy season, long buds appear. These change colour and are beaten from the tree and dried. These are the cloves sold commercially.

History: The word clove comes from the Latin word ‘clavus’, meaning nail, since the shaft and head of the clove bud resembles a nail. Cloves and nutmeg were among the most precious of items in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries when they were worth more than their weight in gold.

Strength of aroma: Medium to strong

Common uses

Aromatherapy: Clove bud essential oil has a warm, spicy, and rich aroma that is often used in aromatherapy to create an inviting and comforting ambiance. Its scent can help uplift mood, reduce stress, and create a cozy atmosphere in living spaces.

Scented products: The distinct aroma of clove bud essential oil makes it a popular choice for adding fragrance to various products. It can be used in making perfumes, candles, soaps, lotions, and other scented items to impart a unique and pleasant scent.
