Description: Ajowan is an Asian member of the Apiaceae or Umbellifierae family. It is an annual herb, 30-70 cm high, with feathery leaves and red flowers.

Common uses: Used in Ayurvedic medicine, ajowan essential oil is a potent antimicrobial agent: it is antiseptic, antiviral, antifungal, and antiparasitic.
Ajowan is used externally to relieve arthritis and is also much valued for its antispasmodic, stimulant, tonic, and carminative properties.


Safety data: Avoid during pregnancy; skin irritant (dilute before using externally); may trigger epileptic seizures in susceptible individuals.
