Mānuka is a prolific shrub-type tree and is often one of the first species to regenerate on cleared land.
Grown wild in the Waimana area in Whakatāne. All plants are grown organically without the use of sprays herbicides and pesticides.
The plant has long been used in Rongoā - traditional Māori medicine. It is said to have antimicrobial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. The leaves can be boiled and the steam used to steam the face and open up pores or they can be infused in a carrier oil and used to make balms.
