The Kawakawa (Macropiper excelsum) plant is native to Aotearoa New Zealand and has a rich cultural and historical significance, particularly within rongoā, Māori medicine, as Māori traditionally used kawakawa leaves for various purposes, including infusing the leaves in oil.

Kawakawa oil is often included in skincare products for its potential benefits for the skin.

Kawakawa oil is rich in essential fatty acids, which can contribute to skin moisturisation, and is often used in moisturisers and lotions to help maintain the skin's natural moisture barrier.

Kawakawa infused oil contains antioxidants that may help protect the skin from environmental stressors. Antioxidants can neutralise free radicals, potentially reducing oxidative damage to the skin.

When applied topically, kawakawa infused oil may provide a calming sensation on the skin, which can be beneficial for individuals with sensitive or irritated skin.

Kawakawa infused oil is believed to have natural skin conditioning properties, leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth. This makes it a popular ingredient in various skincare formulations as is is said to support overall skin health and a healthy complexion.

Useful alone or blended into creams, lotions, soaps and cleansers.
