Pistachio oil has a high concentration of vitamin E, an antioxidant which helps to combat the effects of free radicals (unstable atoms that can damage cells), maintain skin cell integrity and promote skin cell turnover and regeneration. Vitamin E also works to reduce inflammation and can help minimize oil production, freeing up pores and preventing oil build up, making it useful in the treatment of acne. Pistachio oil can be easily absorbed leaving skin soft and silky.
It is also high in oleic acid, which can be beneficial in healing wounds and helping skin repair itself, and contains palmitic acid, which is an emollient, making the skin feel smooth and moisturised. These emollient properties can penetrate layers of the skin, moisturising and helping to firm skin, increase skin elasticity and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Also said to have antibacterial properties which can help to treat skin conditions such as eczema.
Also useful in haircare formulations, said to help prevent hair from drying out and breaking, leaving hair sleek and glossy.
A refined oil with a bland odour makes it ideal for many massage, aromatherapy and cosmetic applications.
