Our French Green Clay is a mineral-rich blend of approximately 55% Montmorillonite and 45% Illite, responsibly sourced from the Auvergne region of France, known for its pristine volcanic landscapes and nutrient-rich soils. The higher Montmorillonite content gives this clay excellent absorbing properties while the presence of Illite helps to balance its strength, making it more suitable for most skin types. Pure Montmorillonite is highly absorbent but can be too aggressive for sensitive skin, this balanced blend offers the detoxifying benefits of both clays without being overly harsh.
Naturally coloured by iron oxide, this clay also contains beneficial trace elements including magnesium, calcium, potassium, manganese, phosphorus, zinc, aluminium, silicon, copper, selenium, cobalt, and molybdenum.
French Green Clay is valued for its oil-absorbing and skin-balancing properties, helping to draw out impurities, minimise excess oil, and leave skin feeling refreshed and revitalised. It’s ideal for oily, combination, and breakout-prone skin types.

This clay is harvested using environmentally responsible practices, with quarry sites rehabilitated and re-vegetated after use. Quarries are located in protected natural zones, far from urban pollution and pesticide exposure.
To ensure purity and safety, a combination of sun drying and gentle dehydration by warm air is used. This method eliminates potential pathogens, bacteria, and mould while preserving the clay’s natural properties. This provides a safer and higher-quality clay that meets strict European cosmetic standards—free from unwanted contaminants sometimes found in clays dried exclusively in urban or outdoor conditions.
How to Use:
- Mix 1 tablespoon of clay with water, hydrosol, or oil to form a paste.
- Apply a thick layer to the face or body.
- Leave on for up to 10 minutes (do not allow to fully dry).
- Rinse off with warm water and follow with your favourite oil or moisturiser.
- For best results, steam your face beforehand to open pores.
