Squalane - Olive
Squalane is a stable, lightweight oil derived from olives. Naturally present in human sebum in its original form as squalene, it plays an important role in keeping skin soft and supple. Because squalene is highly unstable and prone to oxidation, it is converted through hydrogenation into squalane — a fully saturated oil with a much longer shelf life, while retaining the same moisturising properties.
Olive-derived squalane is a popular choice in modern skincare formulations because it is:
- Fast-absorbing and non-greasy
- Non-comedogenic, so it won’t clog pores
- Suitable for all skin types, including dry, sensitive, oily, and acne-prone
- Lightweight yet effective in helping to maintain skin hydration and softness
Its olive origin makes it a sustainable and plant-based alternative to squalane once commonly sourced from shark liver.
How to use
Squalane can be applied directly to the skin as a facial oil, used under makeup as a smooth, light base, or added into creams, lotions, and serums to improve texture and spreadability. It blends easily with other oils and actives, making it a versatile addition to a wide range of cosmetic formulations.
