Chia seed oil: cold pressed in NZ
Chia seed oil is yellow in colour and quickly absorbs leaving your skin soft and silky. A great oil to use as a daytime moisturiser.
It is touted as being an alternative to fish oil and is high in omega 3.
The oil can calm itchy, dry skin, is anti-flammatory, and can slow down the formation of wrinkles.
Apply a few drops on your hair before styling to prevent frizz.

Natural colours in CP soap
Last month I experimented with natural colours in CP soap. There are many items that you may have around home that can be used: paprika, cinnamon, spirulina, turmeric.
Paprika
For this loaf, I used 2T paprika and stirred it into the grapeseed portion of the recipe. I left it for two days, stirring occasionally. (This is called paprika-infused oil, so don't get foxed by fancy terms.)
When I wanted to make the soap, I poured the oil off the grains of paprika as I didn't want them in the soap. This is your choice though.
I used grapeseed oil because it is very clear. I didn't want the red of the paprika to have to compete with the green of olive oil or the yellow of rapeseed oil.
The recipe: It fits nicely in our loaf mould.
230g grapeseed oil
230g organic palm oil
230g coconut oil
230g water
104g sodium hydroxide
2T paprika powder
30g palmarosa essential oil |
|
The lefthand bar above was coloured with 2T spirulina powder. I infused it with grapeseed oil as explained above. I threw in 20g of poppy seeds just before I poured.
The middle bar was made with 2T of green clay. The clay wasn't infused, but stirred in the soap mixture just before trace.
The righthand bar is made with rapeseed oil, not grapeseed oil, to show you how you can get a very pretty yellow soap with no added colour. |

Balms are SO simple to make.
If you can make toast, you can make a balm.
If you want to experiment with ingredients and get it too soft or too hard, just re-melt it and try again. It's impossible to fail!

Dog Shampoo
This is a cold-processed soap recipe which is much superior to factory-made soaps.
How do you tell the difference?
A factory-made soap will look smooth and perfect, in fact that's their forte: looking good.
I have never yet found a factory-made soap that is as moisturising and gentle on my skin.
Anyway, here's a great dog shampoo recipe:
230g coconut oil
230g organic palm oil
130g castor oil
100g neem oil
230g water
104g sodium hydroxide
30g manuka essential oil
You can use any essential oil. Teatree would be good and is cheaper than manuka. Lemon and teatree together. Lemongrass and cedarwood is a good combo.
