Description: The cinnamon tree is an evergreen native to China and Vietnam that has been cultivated in many other regions. It has shiny, leathery green leaves and small, white flowers with oval-shaped, purple flowers.

History: Medicinal use of cinnamon leaf was first recorded in Chinese formularies as early as 2700BC. The herb has been used as a healing aid for stomach upsets and gas, diarrhea, rheumatism, kidney ailments and abdominal pain. The Egyptians used it as a foot massage and a remedy for excessive bile. It was used as an ingredient in mulled wine, love potions and a sedative during birth.

Safety data: Avoid during pregnancy; skin irritant (dilute before using externally); may trigger epileptic seizures in susceptible individuals. Is capable of causing sensitivity, especially with mucous membranes. It should be used in proper dilution.
