Kumarahou grows up to four meters in height, and flowers in September, with yellow blossoms.

It is also known as "gum-diggers soap" and "golden tainui".

It is said to have gentle cleansing properties.

The leaves and flowers of the NZ native Kumerahou plant have been used in Rongoa (traditional Maori medicine) as a poultice or to gently bathe abrasions, sores and rashes.
