Silica microspheres are ultra fine, spherical particles of silica, a naturally occurring mineral found in sandstone, clay, and granite. Presented as a soft, fine white powder, these microspheres have a silky, dry touch feel that makes them ideal for use in a wide range of cosmetic formulations.
Thanks to their unique spherical shape, silica microspheres scatter light across the skin, helping to visibly blur the appearance of fine lines, pores, and uneven texture. This creates a soft focus, “airbrushed” finish often sought after in makeup and skincare products.
Silica microspheres are commonly used to:
- Enhance product glide and skin feel
- Absorb excess oil and mattify the skin
- Reduce greasiness in oil rich formulations
- Extend the wear time of makeup, particularly eye shadows and foundations
- Provide a dry touch finish in oil based serums and emulsions
These microspheres are especially beneficial in colour cosmetics and primers but can also be added to creams, serums, and balms to improve overall product aesthetics and skin feel.
