Lip Scrub

This is a fun and easy recipe which smells amazing! Lip scrubs are a great way to exfoliate dead skin cells, boost blood circulation and leave your lips feeling plump and smooth.

It is important to exfoliate the skin on the face gently, hence why I have used castor sugar which is finer rather than raw brown sugar as that is far more coarse. Coarse sugar is great for exfoliating the body and feet, but can damage the delicate skin on our face.

Recipe
Makes 100g - use our Batch Size Calculator and the percentages provided here to easily adjust the volume of your batch.

Ingredients

70g | 70% Castor sugar (any fine sugar)
15g | 5% Coconut oil, organic virgin
14.2g | 14.2% Cocoa butter, organic, deodorised
0.5g | 0.5% Vitamin E
0.3g | 0.3% Essential or a  fragrance oil of your choice (optional)
Pinch of Mica for a pop of colour

For the lip scrubs pictured we used princess peach mica and strawberry fragrance oil for the pink ,
orange mica and mango fragrance oil for the orange and for the white we used coconut fragrance oil and no mica.

Method

  • Weigh the coconut oil, cocoa butter and sugar in a pot or heat proof jug. You can use a water bath or on direct heat, if using direct heat be careful to keep the heat very low. We want to melt the coconut oil without crystallising the sugar.
  • Stir to combine as it melts.
  • Once combined, take off the heat and add the vitamin e oil and essential/fragrance oil (if using) and mica (if using).
  • Pot and leave to set.
Clear glass pots are great for storing your lip scrubs.

To use
Massage into lips in a circular motion. Wipe/rinse off.

Note: The vitamin E in this recipe acts as an antioxidant and will help to give it a longer shelf life but is not a broadspectrum preservative. Therefore it is very important that water does not come in contact with the scrub. Make sure you use dry hands when in contact with the lip scrub.
