Vitamin E (D-alpha Tocopherol)
Natural. Produced from non-GMO soybeans.
1000 IU per gram.
This material is natural d-alpha tocopherol, the biologically active form of vitamin E. It is extracted from non-GMO soybean oil and diluted with sunflower oil for pourability.
Ideal for oil-based formulations. At low percentages it helps slow oxidation of oils (note: for maximum rancidity control, mixed tocopherols are generally more effective). It also offers skin-conditioning benefits, making it a popular addition to oils, balms, serums & emulsions.
Please note: Vitamin E is an antioxidant, not a preservative. Use with a suitable broad-spectrum preservative in water-containing formulas.
Key points
-
Best for: adding vitamin E skin benefit and label appeal in leave-on formulas.
-
Antioxidant role: can help slow oxidation, but if shelf life is your main goal, mixed tocopherols are usually more effective.
-
Suggested rates: 0.2–1% for skin benefit. If using as an antioxidant, 0.5–1%.
-
Where to add: oil phase or cool down, ideally after removing from heat (~50–60 °C).
-
What it is: natural single-isomer d-alpha tocopherol, soy-derived, diluted with sunflower oil. Palm-oil-free and vegan friendly.
Natural vs synthetic
Natural vitamin E (d-alpha/RRR-α-tocopherol) contains the bioactive isomer and is more bioavailable. Synthetic (dl-alpha) is a mixture of isomers with lower overall biopotency.
Precautions
Concentrated vitamin E can be irritating neat. Use diluted within a finished formula. Those with soy/seed allergies should patch test.
