Black Mica
Black mica is a shimmering pigment that produces shades from soft grey to pearlescent black, depending on usage and base colour. It adds depth and subtle shimmer to eyeshadows, liners, and other colour cosmetics, as well as decorative swirls and highlights in soaps.
Mica is a fine mineral powder that reflects light to create a pearlescent effect on the skin. Black mica is produced by coating natural mica flakes with oxides such as titanium dioxide and iron oxide. The thickness of these oxide layers determines the final tone and shimmer.
The finish also depends on particle size: finer particles create a silky satin look, while larger ones give a stronger sparkle. In clear M&P soap, Black mica produces its most dramatic effect, ranging from luminous grey to shimmering black. In opaque soaps, the shimmer is more muted but can still create beautiful highlights when swirled through or brushed on the finished bar.
🔎 Note: If you’re looking for a deep, solid black pigment without shimmer, we recommend using Black Iron Oxide instead, as it provides a true opaque black.
Our micas are mined under safe and ethical conditions, and are considered safe, non-toxic, and suitable for use in mineral makeup and cosmetics for the face, lips, and body.
