Candelilla wax
Candelilla wax is a hard, plant-based wax used to add structure, firmness, and glide to formulations such as soaps, lipsticks, balms, and creams. Extracted from the leaves of the candelilla shrub, which grows in the Chihuahuan Desert of northern Mexico and western Texas, this natural wax helps the plant retain moisture in its arid environment.
With a melting point of 60–70 °C, candelilla wax blends easily with oils and other waxes. It is harder and more brittle than beeswax but softer than carnauba, making it a versatile vegan substitute that can harden softer waxes or soften very hard ones.
Light yellow in colour with a mild beeswax-like scent when melted, candelilla wax offers excellent moulding and casting properties. In cosmetics, it provides a smooth, silky glide that makes it especially popular in lipsticks, balms, and skin creams.
