Grapefruit Pink Essential Oil

Grapefruit pink essential oil is a fresh, bright citrus oil cold-pressed from the peel of the grapefruit (Citrus paradisi). It has a clean, slightly bitter citrus aroma that is uplifting and vibrant, making it a popular choice in aromatherapy, natural perfumery, and cosmetic formulation.

Cold-pressed citrus oils retain the aromatic compounds found naturally in the fruit peel, giving grapefruit oil its characteristic freshness and lively top notes. This oil is commonly used to add a crisp citrus lift to blends for skincare, body care, soapmaking, and home fragrance.

As with many citrus oils, grapefruit essential oil contains naturally occurring furanocoumarins and is considered phototoxic. This does not prevent its use in skincare, but appropriate dilution and sensible sun exposure precautions should be followed.

Common Uses

Aromatherapy
Often used to create a fresh, uplifting atmosphere. Grapefruit oil is commonly included in blends designed to feel bright, clean and energising.

Skincare and Body Care
Used at low levels in creams, lotions, body oils and scrubs to add a fresh citrus aroma. Due to phototoxicity, leave-on products should remain within recommended usage limits.

Soapmaking
A popular choice in cold process and melt and pour soapmaking, where phototoxicity is not a concern in wash-off products.

Home Fragrance and Cleaning
Frequently used in diffusers, room sprays and natural cleaning formulations for its crisp, clean scent.

Safety and Phototoxicity

This is a cold-pressed (not FCF) grapefruit essential oil and is therefore phototoxic.
For leave-on skincare products, keep total grapefruit oil concentration low and avoid sun or UV exposure on treated skin for 12–24 hours.

Always dilute before skin application and patch test prior to use.
