Kawakawa hydroethanolic extract, NZ
A water and alcohol-based extract of kawakawa, a well-known native New Zealand plant traditionally used in Rongoā Māori. “Hydroethanolic” simply means the plant material has been extracted using a blend of water (hydro) and ethanol (alcohol), which helps draw out a broader range of plant compounds than water or alcohol alone.
Water tends to extract more polar, water-soluble components, while ethanol helps dissolve compounds that water alone can’t effectively capture. The result is a more complete extract of the plant’s natural profile, in a format that is stable and easy to work with in formulations.
It works well in water-based products such as serums, creams, gels, and toners.
