Red iron oxide is a naturally occurring mineral pigment made from iron and oxygen compounds. It is considered safe, gentle, non-toxic, and hypoallergenic, making it suitable for use on sensitive skin.
Iron oxides are inexpensive and long-lasting pigments that come in earthy tones such as red, yellow, brown, and black. They are widely used in both mineral makeup and conventional cosmetic brands.
These pigments are moisture resistant, do not easily bleed or smear, and offer excellent staying power.
With strong colouring ability, red iron oxide is used in a wide range of products including foundation, eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick. It is also popular for colouring cold-process soaps and creams. The pigment is highly concentrated, so a little goes a long way.
