Sodium cocoyl isethionate (SCI)
Sodium cocoyl isethionate (SCI) is a mild, coconut-derived anionic surfactant prized for its dense, creamy lather and silky after-feel. It is a go-to for gentle liquid cleansers and syndet bars, including solid shampoos and face and body cleansing bars, where a conditioned, cushiony foam is the goal.
SCI blends well with other surfactants, particularly amphoterics which can boost mildness and help it process smoothly. It is not freely soluble at room temperature. With heat and a co-surfactant it disperses into the aqueous phase to form stable, low-irritation systems. Expect a pearly to opaque appearance and a soft, velvety rinse-off in finished formulas.
Important note: This product creates fine dust when handled dry — wear a dust mask and minimise airborne particles.
