Sodium hydroxide, also known as lye or caustic soda, is an essential ingredient in cold process soapmaking. This highly alkaline compound reacts with fats and oils to create soap through the process of saponification.
Our sodium hydroxide is 99% pure and comes in fine granule form, making it ideal for precise measuring and efficient dissolving.
Important Information
Sodium hydroxide is a corrosive chemical and must always be handled with care. It should only be used by those familiar with safe soapmaking practices.
- Always wear safety glasses, gloves, and long sleeves when handling.
- If sodium hydroxide contacts skin, it will sting. Flush the area immediately with cold running water until the stinging stops.
- Never add water to sodium hydroxide — always add sodium hydroxide slowly to water when mixing.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
