Sodium phytate (Dermofeel PA-3)
Sodium phytate is a naturally derived chelating agent used in skincare formulations to help keep products stable and fresh.
It works by binding to trace metals (like iron or copper) that can be present in water or raw ingredients. These metals can cause issues like discolouration, changes in scent, or oils going rancid over time. By helping to control this, sodium phytate supports the overall stability and shelf life of your formulation.
It’s a popular natural alternative to EDTA and is well suited to a wide range of cosmetic products.
About this ingredient
Sodium phytate is derived from rice bran and is commonly used in natural and ECOCERT/COSMOS-compliant formulations.
It is readily biodegradable and considered environmentally friendly. It also works well alongside antioxidants such as vitamin E (tocopherol) to further support product stability.
How to Use
Sodium phytate is water-soluble and should be added to the water phase of your formulation.
Suitable for use in:
- Creams and lotions
- Serums
- Toners
- Cleansers
- Hair care products
Use at 0.05–0.2% of your total formulation.
