Make your own solid conditioner bars

Create nourishing solid conditioner bars at home with this simple DIY pack. Solid conditioner bars are a great way to reduce plastic bottles in the shower while still giving your hair softness, slip and manageability.

All ingredients in this pack are vegan and cruelty free.

What You’ll Need at Home

• Spatula
• Moulds
• Equipment to make a double boiler
  (a large pot plus a smaller pot or heatproof jug)

Ingredients

Makes approximately 6 bars, around 50g each

Step 1

• Conditioner pellets (BTMS-25)
• Organic cocoa butter

Step 2

• Glycerin, certified organic
• Hydrolysed quinoa
• Chosen fragrance oil or essential oil
  (Please note: the Vanilla Fragrance will naturally turn the bars brown. If you prefer a lighter colour, we recommend adding colour.)
• Microcare DB (preservative)

Optional colour:
If adding colour, 1–2tsp is usually sufficient. Sprinkle in gradually while blending until you reach your desired shade.

Moulds and colours are not included and can be purchased separately.

Important Note on Cocoa Butter

Due to a current global cocoa butter shortage, this pack temporarily contains natural (non-deodorised) cocoa butter rather than deodorised cocoa butter.

While used at a relatively low percentage, the natural cocoa aroma may subtly influence or compete with added essential oils or fragrance oils. Many customers enjoy the soft chocolate note, but it’s worth considering when choosing your fragrance.

Method

1. Prepare a double boiler
   Place a heatproof jug carefully inside a pot of gently simmering water.

2. Melt Step 1 ingredients
   Add all Step 1 ingredients to the jug and gently heat until fully melted. Do not allow the mixture to boil.

3. Add Step 2 ingredients
   Remove the jug from heat and stir in the Step 2 ingredients until fully combined. If using colour, add it at this stage and mix well.

4. Mould and set
   Pour the mixture into moulds and leave to set. Refrigerate to speed up the process if desired. Once fully firm, remove the bars from the moulds.

5. Use and storage
   To use, apply the bar to wet hair after shampooing, massage through the lengths, then rinse clean.
   Leave the bar out to air dry between uses, ready for next time.

About the Ingredients

Some of these ingredients may be unfamiliar, so here is a brief overview of their role in the formula.

Conditioner pellets (BTMS-25)
A high-performance conditioning emulsifier commonly used in both rinse-off and leave-on hair products. It provides excellent slip, detangling and softness.

Hydrolysed quinoa
A plant-based protein rich in amino acids. It helps support hair strength, softness and shine and is commonly used in conditioning and protective hair formulations.

Glycerin (certified organic)
A plant-derived humectant that attracts and retains moisture, helping hair feel softer and more hydrated.

Microcare DB
An Ecocert-approved broad-spectrum preservative suitable for water-containing products.
