Xanthan gum powder
Pharmaceutical grade, non-GMO.
Xanthan gum is a widely used natural thickener and stabiliser produced through the fermentation of corn sugar. It is valued in cosmetic formulations for its versatility, stability, and cost-effectiveness.
Highly soluble in both hot and cold water, xanthan gum performs reliably across a broad range of pH levels and temperatures. It is also tolerant of salts, making it a dependable choice for gels, lotions, creams, and water-based formulations where consistent viscosity and stability are required.
When hydrated, xanthan gum forms a smooth, creamy gel with a naturally opaque appearance, helping improve texture, body, and suspension in finished products.
Common uses
- Thickening and stabilising lotions and creams
- Creating water-based gels and serums
- Improving suspension and preventing ingredient separation
- Enhancing viscosity and body in emulsions
Formulation tips
- Pre-disperse xanthan gum into glycerin or another humectant before adding to water to help prevent clumping.
- Add slowly to the water phase while stirring to ensure even hydration.
- Allow time for full hydration, viscosity will continue to develop over several hours.
- Xanthan gum creates an opaque, creamy gel, which is ideal for many formulations but not suitable where full clarity is required.
About clarity
This is a standard xanthan gum, chosen for reliability and value. It produces a creamy, opaque gel.
For applications where a clear or transparent gel is required, a different type of gum or polymer is needed.
