Niacinamide
Niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, is a water-soluble vitamin widely used in cosmetic formulations. It is known in skincare for its role in supporting overall skin appearance and helping improve the look of uneven tone, texture, and excess oil when used appropriately.
In formulations, niacinamide is often included in products designed to promote a more balanced-looking complexion. It is commonly found in serums, creams, lotions, and toners intended for dull, uneven, oily, or sensitised skin, as well as general daily skincare products.
Niacinamide is frequently used alongside ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, peptides, retinoids, exfoliating acids (AHAs and BHAs), and antioxidants. Its stability and broad compatibility make it a popular choice in multi-active formulations where several ingredients are working together.
Formulation tips
- Niacinamide dissolves easily in water and should be added to the water phase.
- It is compatible with most common skincare ingredients, including hyaluronic acid, peptides, retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and antioxidants.
- It can be heated during normal emulsification, but avoid prolonged high temperatures where possible.
- For extra caution, niacinamide can be added during the cool-down phase (below 40°C).
- Keep the final product within a pH range of 4–6 for best stability and skin comfort.
