Hero Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Hero Hyaluronic Acid Serum

This hero formula is a boosted version of a classic hyaluronic acid serum, designed for people who want more than simple hydration. Alongside hyaluronic acid, this recipe includes niacinamide, glycerin, aloe vera extract and allantoin, creating a well-rounded water-based serum that offers improved skin comfort and a smoother-looking finish.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a large, water-loving molecule that attracts moisture to the surface layers of the skin, helping it look fresher and more hydrated. In this formula, HA is paired with glycerin, another effective humectant, to enhance that moisturising effect.

Niacinamide is widely used in modern skincare for supporting an even, healthy-looking complexion.
Aloe vera extract offers lightweight soothing properties.
Allantoin helps to keep the skin feeling soft and comfortable.

Together, these ingredients create a silky, hydrating serum that layers well under moisturisers, oils and makeup. It is suitable for most skin types and is ideal as a daily hydration step in a routine.

How to Use Hyaluronic Acid Serum

For best results, apply hyaluronic acid serum to slightly damp skin. HA attracts water, so giving it a little moisture to work with helps it sit comfortably on the skin and improves that hydrated finish.

Recommended order in your skincare routine

  1. Cleanser
  2. Toner or hydrosol mist (leave the skin lightly damp)
  3. Hyaluronic acid serum
  4. Face oils and/or moisturiser

Using a moisturiser or oil after your HA serum helps seal in the surface moisture, supporting a smoother, more hydrated appearance. HA works well on its own, but it performs even better when followed by a cream or oil because these occlusive or emollient layers help slow water loss.

You can use HA morning or evening, or both if your skin enjoys it.

    Ingredients

Makes 100g -  Adjust batch volume with Go Native NZ's Batch Size Calculator

    90.5% | 90.5g distilled water
    5% | 5g niacinamide
    2% | 2g glycerin, certified organic
    1% | 1g hyaluronic acid powder
    0.25% | 0.25g allantoin
    0.25% | 0.25g aloe vera extract
    1% | 1g Geogard 221 (preservative)

    Method

    1. Make an aloe vera juice by stirring the aloe vera extract into the water.
    2. Add the glycerin, preservative (Geogard 221 or Microcare DB), niacinamide and allantoin, sprinkling powders slowly and mixing well.
    3. Slowly sprinkle the hyaluronic acid powder over the surface of the water and stir. It will clump at first, but keep mixing as much as possible. (An electric beater can help speed this up.)
    4. Leave covered, preferably overnight, until all the hyaluronic acid has fully hydrated.
    5. Check the pH if you can. This type of serum is usually comfortable around pH 5 to 7, and both Geogard 221 and Microcare DB are effective in this range. Adjust only if needed.
    6. Pour into a 100 ml bottle or five 20 ml dropper bottles. Use one dropper bottle for daily application and refill as needed.
