By now we have all been introduced to the wonderful benefits of rosehip oil but rosehips have more excellent skincare benefits to offer in the form of an extract. Rosehips have a famously high vitamin C content, though because vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin it isn’t available in a cold pressed oil. That’s where rosehip extract shines.
Thanks to this high vitamin C content and other antioxidant compounds including polyphenols, rosehip extract displays an excellent antioxidant profile that is said to enrich products designed to protect, rejuvenate, firm, soothe, condition and strengthen the skin and hair.
The abundance of vitamin C in rosehip extract has been said to contribute to the reduction in signs of premature ageing such as fine lines, age spots and scarring. It has also been said to help firm and tighten the skin.
In skincare products, the addition of rosehip extract is said to contribute to an improvement in skin elasticity, the brightening of dull or discoloured complexions, as well as supporting skin's protection against environmental pollutants as well as UV light.
Rosehip extract is said to provide gentle hydration, helping skin feel soft, smooth, and youthful whilst help to reduce sensations of irritation and redness for dry or sensitive skin types.
In hair care products, thanks to its strong antioxidant properties, rosehip extract can help to support the restoration of moisture and vitality of hair strands, helping to eliminate frizz and split ends, giving hair an overall more healthy appearance. Rosehip extract can also help benefit hair that has been chemically treated, bleached, or otherwise damaged due to heat or colouring. Incorporated as an active ingredient in hair treatments, rosehip extract is said to help nourish the scalp and strands while helping to safeguard against further external damage.
Rosehip extract can be incorporated into a wide variety of nourishing, water based, skin and hair care products such as:
Face creams
Eye creams
Gels
Toners
Facial mists
Cleansers
Lotions
Shower gels
Face masks
Shampoos
Conditioners
