Basic Clay Mask

Basic Clay Mask

If you're new to making your own face masks or if you have particularly sensitive skin then this basic clay face mask is a great jumping off point because, well, it's basic!

White kaolin clay is a gentle and versatile ingredient in skincare, offering several benefits. It is known for its mild cleansing properties, making it suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. The clay helps to gently exfoliate the skin, removing dead cells and promoting a smoother, more refined texture. It also absorbs excess oil without stripping the skin of its natural moisture, which can help balance oily and combination skin. Additionally, white kaolin clay has soothing and calming effects, making it ideal for reducing redness and irritation, while also helping to refine pores and improve overall skin tone.

This makes it an excellent base for a clay mask that you can always add more ingredients to once you become more confident on your face mask making journey.

To Use

  1. Cleanse: Remove any makeup, dirt, or oils from your skin.
  2. Apply: Use a clean brush or your fingers to spread a thin, even layer of the mask onto your face. Start at your upper neck and work your way up. You can use your ring finger near your eyes because it's less likely to pull your skin.
  3. Dry: Let the mask dry for 10 - 15 minutes. The mask will absorb oils, impurities, and dead skin.
  4. Rinse: Use lukewarm water to remove the mask. Warm water is less drying than hot water. It's easy to wash off in the shower.
  5. Moisturise: Apply a moisturiser that suits your skin type. Moisturiser helps replenish the hydration that the mask may have removed. It also seals in the active ingredients from the mask so they don't evaporate.
