Liquid Gold Skin Replenishing Serum

Create your own Liquid Gold Skin Replenishing Serum. The star of this formula is bakuchiol, a natural vitamin A alternative said to deliver the benefits of retinol without the irritation, making it especially suitable for sensitive skin. A potent antioxidant, it is reported to encourage skin cell turnover, even out tone, and help reduce the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation.

Our base combines coco caprylate for a light, silky feel and excellent spreadability with squalane, a skin-identical emollient that helps lock in moisture and protect against oxidative stress.

For nourishing certified organic oils, we’ve chosen:

• Camellia oil – long prized in Eastern Asia for its restorative, fast-absorbing properties.
• Evening primrose oil – helps support the skin barrier and improve softness and elasticity.
• Sea buckthorn fruit oil – rich in vitamins, carotenes, and essential fatty acids, used here in a low percentage to provide a gorgeous golden glow.

To finish, a touch of organic geranium and helichrysum essential oils brings antioxidant and regenerative benefits while adding a delicate aroma. (Essential oils are optional and can be left out if you prefer an unfragranced product.)

We know not everyone has the time and space to formulate from scratch, which is why we’ve made this spectacular little serum available as a ready-made product. You can try it out first and see if you like it. (It was meant to be limited edition, but due to popular demand it’s now part of our regular range!)

Formula

Ingredients
Makes 20g 

33.5% | 6.7g Fractionated coconut oil, certified organic
20% | 4g Coco caprylate
20% | 4g Camellia oil, certified organic
10% | 2g Squalane - olive
10% | 2g Evening primrose oil, certified organic
3% | 0.60g Sea buckthorn fruit oil, certified organic
2% | 0.40g Vitamin E
1% | 0.20g Bakuchiol
0.30% | 0.06g Geranium essential oil, Egyptian
0.20% | 0.04g Helichrysum italicum essential oil, certified organic

Method

1. Weight all ingredients into a beaker or dish.
2. Stir to combine - make sure everything is mixed in very well, particularly the Bakuchiol as any droplets not completely dispersed can burn skin if it comes into direct contact.
3. Pour into a dropper bottle.

To use

• Apply 3 - 4 drops to skin and massage in with fingertips, avoiding eye area.
• Can be used day and/or night.

Substitutions

• Coco caprylate and/or Squalane can be entirely or partially replaced with a carrier oil, such as more fractionated coconut oil or more camellia oil, though it can make the final product heavier and slower to absorb.
• Evening primrose oil can be replaced with another carrier oil, this may change the feel, texture, colour and or scent of the final product depending on the carrier oil chosen.
• Sea buckthorn fruit oil can be replaced with sea buckthorn seed oil but won't have quite the same depth of colour.
• Essential oils can be replaced with other essential oils of your choice. Keep the entire amount of essential oil/s, whether you're using one or a blend of five, at 0.5% and check the dermal limits of any essential oils you may wish to use incase they are lower than the generally recommended 0.5%.
