Midnight in bloom

Midnight in bloom recipe
Midnight in bloom serum

This decadent night serum feels gorgeous and silky to apply and smells like you're going to sleep in a herbaceous garden.

As with all Go Native NZ recipes we share they are first trialled on ourselves and friends and family. A couple of our dear friends had this to say about the serum:

Erica: "That oil is probably one of the best things I have ever used on my skin."
Nicky: "It is amazing and I spilled a bit the other day and was like 'noooo my liquid goooold'."

About the ingredients
Grape seed oil is a beautifully smoothing and light, fast absorbing oil. Said to help brighten skin and regenerate new cell growth.

Cococaprylate is a natural emollient and silicone alternative. It helps moisturise and is responsible for the silky touch skin feeling. Also said to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Squalane oil is non-comedogenic (won't clog pores) and suitable for all skin types, particularly good for dry, sensitive, oily or acne prone skin. It is an excellent moisturiser which leaves skin soft and hydrated, is said to help heal chapped, dry and irritated skin such as eczema and psoriasis, help regulate oil production and help protect skin from free radicals which cause premature signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles.

Rosehip oil is a deeply penetrating, fast absorbing oil, rich in vitamins. Said to help regenerate skin cells, boost collagen production, brighten skin and help reduce fine lines, scarring and damage to sun exposure.

Evening primrose oil contains high concentrations of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Said to help improve hydration and elasticity, regulate sebum production and reduce wrinkles and fine lines.

Sunflower oil is rich in vitamins A, D and E which act as antioxidants, helping regenerate damaged skin cells and eliminate acne causing bacteria. The omega 6 (linoleic) fatty acid in sunflower oil helps to maintain the skin’s natural barrier, supporting its ability to retain moisture. It can also help reduce skin inflammation and enhance the development of new skin cells.

Jasmine absolute 3% in organic jojoba oil and Rose absolute 3% in organic jojoba oil - these essential oils are expensive in their pure form so using the 3% dilution in this serum makes it far more affordable.
Jojoba oil is an excellent all round oil and because it so closely resembles skin’s natural sebum (the oil your skin naturally creates) it makes it easy to absorb and helps balance oil production in oily skin by tricking naturally oily skin into thinking it has produced enough oil. Also very moisturising for dry skin. Jojoba is full of nutrients like vitamins E and B, as well as antioxidants and minerals like chromium, copper, and zinc, which all nourish and protect skin. Organic, cold-pressed, jojoba oil has the highest level of antioxidants and nutrients.
Jasmine absolute is said to be an effective antibacterial, soothing for dry skin and eczema help increase cell turnover to lighten the appearance of scarring.
Rose absolute is said to help hydrate dry skin, clear acne, reduce signs of fine lines and wrinkles, minimize scarring and help with conditions such as eczema and rosacea.

Vitamin E is said to nourish skin, restore lost moisture, lighten scarring and hyperpigmentation, slow signs of premature ageing and treat dark under eye circles.

Lavender essential oil is said to help lessen acne, brighten skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Rose geranium essential oil is an astringent that can help tighten skin, brighten complexion and remove dead skin cells.

Rosemary essential oil acts as a refreshing astringent that can help balance and tone skin.

Coriander essential oil is said to have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-fungal and detoxifying properties.

Turmeric essential oil is said to be anti-fungal and antiseptic, helping prevent breakouts, fade marks and spot and generally help to clear blemished skin.
