The star of this formula is bakuchiol, a natural vitamin A alternative without any of the associated negative side effects, particularly for sensitive skin. It is a 100% natural, potent antioxidant which has been clinically demonstrated to reduce hyperpigmentation and address multiple signs of ageing as efficiently as retinol. It is said to increase skin cell turnover, helping to remove dead skin cells and replace them with new, fresh cells, giving skin an overall smoother and more even skin tone.

For our base we have used coco caprylate - a natural emollient and silicone alternative with excellent spreadability and a fast absorbing, light, silky skin feel, and squalane
an unsaturated oil produced by our own skin cells and part of our skin’s natural moisture. It is a highly effective emollient, natural antioxidant and all round excellent moisturiser.

For our carrier oils we have chosen camellia oil which been recognised for centuries in Eastern Asia for its highly restorative and rejuvenating effect on skin. It contains vitamins, A, B, and E and various minerals plus has outstanding moisture-retaining ability and is rapidly absorbed, leaving skin smooth and supple.

Evening primrose oil for its ability to help fortify and protect the skin’s barrier against free radicals, which lead to signs of premature ageing, and to help improve the feel of skin softness and elasticity.

Also sea buckthorn fruit oil for its nourishing, revitalising, and restorative functions. Sea buckthorn berries appear to be an unsurpassed natural source of vitamin A and several other carotenes, vitamin E and several other tocopherols. They are also rich in several other vitamins, including B1, B2, K and P as well as in numerous flavonoids. The berries have a remarkably high content of essential fatty acids and phytosterols. Sea buckthorn fruit oil is highly coloured so we have used it at a low percentage to give our serum a gorgeous golden glow.

For our essential oils we've chosen geranium and helichrysum. Geranium for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, it is said to actively boosts skin's health and natural glow. Helichrysum for its
anti-inflammatory properties thanks to a substance called arzanol, which is said to help in wound healing. It also has antioxidant properties that can help to prevent scarring by regenerating new cells and preventing the accumulation of free radicals, helping to promote healthy skin cell regeneration and an overall glowing, youthful complexion.

Essential oils are optional and can be left out for an unfragranced finished product if you prefer.

Substitutions
  • Coco caprylate and/or Squalane can be entirely or partially replaced with a carrier oil, such as more fractionated coconut oil or more camellia oil, though it can make the final product heavier and slower to absorb.
  • Evening primrose oil can be replaced with another carrier oil, this may change the feel, texture, colour and or scent of the final product depending on the carrier oil chosen.
  • Sea buckthorn fruit oil can be replaced with sea buckthorn seed oil but won't have quite the same depth of colour.
  • Essential oils can be replaced with other essential oils of your choice. Keep the entire amount of essential oil/s, whether you're using one or a blend of five, at 0.5% and check the dermal limits of any essential oils you may wish to use incase they are lower than the generally recommended 0.5%.
